Why LONCAR FAMILY HISTORY? Simply explained, and found in more detail below and in the following short histories of my father William Carl and his descendants, DNA and research has disclosed that William was born with the Bunyard surname but was not the biological son of a Bunyard.
By 2018, I came to the conclusion that my Bunyard research and my DNA results were not adding up. I had done autosomal DNA with Ancestry in 2012 and my brother Richard had submitted Y-DNA and autosomal DNA in 2018. There was a decidedly absent presence of matches to the Bunyard surname. There was also a somewhat mysterious ethnic connection to Croatia. I could not explain either of these anomalies.
This led me to test others, particularly a Bunyard first cousin and daughter of my Uncle Russell Bunyard. Her test results led to serious questions. She matched other Bunyard ancestors. She and I matched a couple people who could be traced back to our grandmother, Dora Brockmann. But the only matches my cousin and I shared were Brockmann and my own siblings. The conclusion seemed obvious: my father William and her father Russell had different fathers. In spite of the fact that his name was on my father’s birth certificate, my grandfather was definitely not Edward Durwood Bunyard.
I had one male Bunyard first cousin of whom I could test for Y-DNA. His Y-DNA was important as it would definitely clarify the male Bunyard relationship. He willingly tested in 2019.
We did not match.
The happy part of this story is that my first cousin is a descendant of James Beal Bunyard. All that historic research on the pages of FAMILY CHRONICLES concerning the Bunyard Family History is relevant. I researched and wrote a new report specifically about his Bunyard DNA Results. Even much of the National Geographic Genographic Project was applicable as fortunately my cousin is of the same male Haplogroup as my brother. As the DNA reports explain, we came from the same ancient root stock and a few thousand years ago his ancestor turned right and my ancestor headed left. They never saw each other again until the 21st Century when their descendants turned up in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.A.
For the DNA reports on my Bunyard family, they can be found on the pages of DNA RESEARCH and specifically Richard E. Bunyard – DNA Results and the National Geographic report for Richard E. Bunyard.
Much research has been done in an effort to find my mystery biological grandfather. I believe I have discovered the answer. My summary and conclusions can be found on the pages of Family Chronicles and John Loncar Family Chronicle.
