TROGLODYTE TRAILS

Every breakfast combination known to Man and then some appears spread out in the dining area. No known soup, salad, sliced meat, cheese, olive, date, egg, bread, jellies, and mystery stuff is lacking. A boiled egg and yogurt, plus very strong coffee, and I am fortified for another day of desert adventure.

Today, we explore unique architecture, walk in the steps of Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca, and I will continue an attempt to capture the essence of unbelievable landscapes. And, I hope, find a glass of wine!

A DAY FOR STAR WARS

Climbing aboard a 4-wheel Landrover hints at what our day may be like. While we travel mostly on paved roads thru low hills, sand cliffs and dunes, we seem destined for a distant time and place: “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….” In reality, our destination – Tatooine.

In 1976, this desert region of Tunisia took on an entirely new look, not geologically but spiritually. Tatooine was born. Its life-forms became cinematographers, gaffers, foley artists, directors and Luke Skywalker.

Marrakech – History and Hikes

14-15 April 2025

Crosby Stills & Nash spoke of “saving all my money Just to take you there.” They sing of “Blowing smoke rings” and the “Striped djellabas” of Marrakech. They also spelled it Marrakesh but I’ll let that go. Any way you spell this city, it means adventure, history, and fun.

Erfoud and Morocco’s Sahara Desert

There always seems to be a tour day of sit-and-ride. This is it. 

I generally love these days. With professional drivers, I enjoy sitting back and watching the scenery roll past my window. I make a point to never sit in front, my rationale being an aversion to crashing through a windshield. We drive south for some 250 miles.

Today, I couldn’t be happier about it.

It had to be something I ate. Whatever, I and the porcelain throne became acquainted throughout the night. I feel like a camel being driven hard across the desert.

I do pop my head up on occasion in order to see my surroundings. Thankfully, the entire day is spent in travel.
